A mother-of-three who is studying for a PhD at Queen's University has appeared in court after police seized cannabis worth an estimated £90,000 at her home.

Three cannabis "gardeners" who between them were looking after four drug factories in south Belfast have each been jailed for two and a half years.

A man is due to appear in court in Belfast after cannabis with a street value of £500,000 was seized near the city centre.

John Harkin, 34, was found with a block of cannabis when police carried out a bail check at a house in St Joseph's Avenue in the city in September 2007.

Police have confirmed the man who was shot in west Belfast on Wednesday is awaiting trial in connection with a drugs charge.
