Study Finds THC Use Safe For Adults Over 65

A new study out of the Netherlands has determined THC use to be safe for older adults, specifically those over 65.

Researchers from the Department of Geriatric Medicine and Radboud Alzheimer Centre, the Department of Pharmacy, the Department for Health Evidence and the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology out of Radboud University Medical Center reviewed the effects of pure THC when administered to adults over the age of 65. The results, while unsurprising to some, offer new evidence that THC can provide treatment for a myriad of ailments for people of all ages.

German Court Legalizes Medical Cannabis Cultivation

A German court in Cologne has ruled that those suffering from chronic pain may grow their own cannabis for medical purposes in certain situations.

The case came as five people suffering from chronic pain brought a complaint to the court claiming that the nation’s Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices refused them permission to grow cannabis at home, despite them having limited access to the medicine and it not being covered by their insurance.

New Study: THC May Treat Alzheimer’s Disease

A study published in this month’s issue of the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, and published online ahead of print by the U.S. National Institute of Health, has found strong evidence to suggest that THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) may provide a treatment option for Alzheimer’s disease.

“The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential therapeutic qualities of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) with respect to slowing or halting the hallmark characteristics of Alzheimer’s disease”, claims the study’s researchers.

New Government-Funded Study: Cannabis May Treat HIV-Associated Neuro Cognitive Disorders

A study being published in the upcoming issue of the Journal of Neuroimmune Pharmacology, and e-published ahead of print yesterday (July 12, 2014) by the U.S. National Institute of Health (who also conducted the study), has found that cannabinoid agonists – such as cannabis – may attenuate HIV-associated neuro cognitive disorders in HIV patients on HAART (highly active antiretroviral therapy). The study also found that activation of the body’s cannabinoid receptors may “blunt brain injury by attenuating drug addiction”.

Berkeley Plans to Give Free Marijuana to the Poor

Earlier this month, Berkeley’s City Council voted unanimously for an ordinance that would provide free medical marijuana to patients with low incomes. If the ordinance passes its second reading in August, marijuana dispensaries will have to set aside 2 percent of their product — which must be of equivalent quality to the marijuana they’re selling at market prices — and give it free to city residents with incomes below $32,000.

Is Cannabis A Cure For Cancer?

Does cannabis treat cancer? Does cannabis kill cancer cells? Does it cure cancer?

THC Magazine posed those questions, in that order, to one of the most knowledgeable people on Earth: Dr. Robert Melamede, a University of Colorado biology professor and world-renowned cannabis researcher.

We also painstakingly reviewed dozens of preclinical studies on cannabis. Our goal is to understand whether cannabis could be the kiss of death for cancer, a panacea for the most feared diseases on the planet.

Study: Cannabinoids May Treat Symptoms of MS, ALS, Huntington’s, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases

A study published recently in the International Journal of High Risk Behavior and Addiction, and published online by the U.S. National Institute of Health, has found that cannabinoids may treat the symptoms of a large variety of neurodegernative diseases including multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

“The aim of this review is to highlight the role of endocannabinoid system in neurodegenerative diseases”, claims the abstract of the study, which researchers call “a critical analysis of the most recent data currently present in scientific literature on the subject; a qualitative synthesis of only the most significant articles has been performed.”

Mother says medical cannabis cut daughter's seizures 95%

Lawmakers in other parts of the country are watching Colorado to see the impact of its medical marijuana laws.

In the next legislative session in Georgia, lawmakers will take another look at a medical marijuana bill. One of the major voices in that conversation comes from a 4 year old who has just uttered her first word.

She did it in Colorado.
