Amsterdam won't enforce coffee shop tourist ban: Mayor

Amsterdam police will turn a blind eye to foreigners buying cannabis in its famous "coffee shops" when a national ban comes into force next year, the city's mayor said on Wednesday.

The mayor's comments put an end to months of uncertainty over a ban on foreign visitors purchasing cannabis at the shops that was introduced this year by a Dutch national government coalition which has since collapsed.

I recently had a conversation with my friend who was telling me about how her mom finally got the courage to tell her friends and family that she is a medical marijuana patient in the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP). This lady is very accomplished, professional, and well known in her area. Due to unfortunate health conditions, she has had to go through a lot of treatment and take a lot of medicine. It took a long time for her to open up to the idea of consuming cannabis for medical purposes because she had been told her whole life that it was bad. It took even longer for her to be willing to share her story.

I have seen many claims from many groups claiming victory of one sort or another against prohibition. This group wants to claim their “evidence” convinced a government to lighten sentencing guidelines, that group thinks they are responsible for spreading the truth about the effects of THC on cancer cells. Activists often get lost in their own egos and forget a simple truth. Normalization is here, and the evidence is everywhere, and no single group or individual gets the credit. It’s just happening.
