Cannabis plants with an estimated value of nearly €250,000 have been seized at a house in Co Monaghan.
Gardaí from the Cavan / Monaghan Drugs Unit backed up by members from the Garda National Drugs Unit searched a house in Reiduff near Castleblayney early this morning as part of ‘Operation Nitrogen’.
Inside they found around 700 cannabis plants at various stages of development. One man in his early 20s was arrested and is being questioned in Carrickmacross Garda Station about the discovery.
This morning’s operation is a follow-up to other seizures in the Ardaghey area of Co Monaghan last month when cannabis plants with an estimated value of €600,000 were found in two houses.
The interior of each of the three houses had been given over entirely to cannabis cultivation. As the plants grew they were moved from room to room receiving extra heat, light and water to help them mature as quickly as possible.
