TWO men are expected to appear in court today after gardai uncovered a large drugs distribution depot and a €4m haul of cannabis.
Detectives from the garda national drugs unit backed up local officers from Santry in the raid on the depot at an apartment block on the northside of Dublin yesterday.
The raid on the Castlekevin apartments at Castlekevin Road followed an operation by local gardai, targeting a number of suspects.
Two men were detained in the swoop, as gardai netted 400kg of
cannabis. The men, who live in the area and are aged in their 30s and 40s, were arrested and taken for questioning to Ballymun garda station.
They were being held last night under the Drug Trafficking Act, which allows the gardai to hold them without charge for up to seven days.
They are expected to appear before the Dublin District Court today.
Gardai used a battering ram to force their way into an apartment in which they found about two-thirds of the haul.
The rest of the cannabis was discovered in a van parked nearby.
Gardai believe a city drug trafficking gang was using the apartment as a distribution point and were in the process of dividing up the haul when the officers burst in.
