More than a quarter of a million euro worth of cannabis was hidden inside a DVD player and other “gifts” seized at Dublin Airport.
Customs officials discovered the drugs among the baggage of a French man who had arrived off a flight from Johannesburg in South Africa. A 46-year-old man was handed over to Santry Garda Station and is expected before court in the morning.
Customs said the 24 kilos of herbal cannabis has an estimated
street value of 300,000 euro. A spokesman said they were concealed within a DVD player and other gift-wrapped items. The latest seizure brings the total value of drugs recovered by Customs officers at Dublin Airport to more than two million euro this year. About one million euro worth of drugs was seized in March alone.
