A CANCER-STRICKEN pensioner turned his village home into a cannabis farm in a bid to ease his pain.
Police found 91 cannabis plants growing in the loft and garage of Barry Steward’s home in Udny Station, Aberdeenshire.
Steward claimed he was growing the drug so he could use it to ease pain he suffered as a result of bowel cancer.
At Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, the 67-year-old retired diver admitted cultivating cannabis plants between April 24, 2007 and April 24, 2008.
Sheriff Annella Cowan ordered him to carry out 200 hours of community service.
