Over 2 tons of cannabis resin seized in northern Morocco
Tangier – Morocco’s Gendarmerie Royale and auxiliary forces seized, Wednesday near the northern city of Ksar Sghir, 2.3 metric tons of cannabis resin (hashish) as well as logistical material used in transporting the drug via the Straits of Gibraltar.
During this large-scale anti-drug combing operation, the gendarmerie royale seized a high-speed boat in a
warehouse, near the house where the seized quantity was stored.
Having carried out searches at suspected houses, the gendarmerie royale, using drug-sniffing dogs, found out the quantity packaged in bundles, probably ready to be shipped to the other shore.
The two people arrested during this operation were found to be wanted.
A 4X4 vehicle, 3 high-speed rubber dinghies, 9 speedboat engines and 5 wireless communication devices were among the material seized during the operation. The material can be used to fit the high-speed boats which are said to be able to get to the other shore within a few minutes with a load of 2 tons.
A combing operation has recently enabled to seize 413 kg of cannabis resin. A French and a Spanish nationals were arrested.
