SCARBOROUGH police investigating what they thought was a malicious 999 call ended up arresting a man and woman for growing cannabis.
When officers arrived at the house in Sandringham Street they found that a child had been playing with the phone and had dialled the emergency services by mistake.
A police spokeswoman said that while they were there, they discovered the couple were growing a small amount of cannabis. She said: “This led to the arrest of a local man and woman in their 20s. They have been dealt with for cultivation of cannabis.”
One received a caution while the other is due to appear before Scarborough magistrates next month.
